Saadani National Park - Hotels and Lodges

Tent With A View

Tent With A View is a unique combination of wild Africa and barefoot luxury. Beautifully designed accommodation, miles of untouched fine white sandy beaches and the knowledge that elephants may have knocked down the coconut trees behind your rooms during the night ensure an experience that you will not find anywhere else.

The lodge has 3 spacious suites including our honeymoon suite, "Venus", 3 family suites and 9 tented bandas. All rooms are raised up high on wooden platforms each with their own terrace and hammock affording wonderful cooling Indian Ocean sea breezes. Our honeymoon suite, Venus even has its very own sunken bath set deep within the mangroves.

There are two distinctly different restaurants. The Beachside Restaurant at the northern end of the lodge with its wonderful stargazer and stunning Indian Ocean views, and the Mangrove Restaurant set on the Mafui creek with its beautiful birdlife. Each has a well-stocked bar with a large variety of spirits and wines. The stargazer snug is a great place to have a sundowner or night-cap whilst enjoying the blanket of stars overhead.

On less energetic days, you may wish to remain around the lodge where there are plenty of gentle activities exploring the beautiful surroundings of Tent With A View. There are nature trails to our viewing tower where you can see deep into the Saadani bush or way across the Indian Ocean to Zanzibar. Alternatively, take a canoe ride amongst the stunning birdlife on our very own Mafui creek.

For a really wild and exclusive African wildlife experience, spend a night or two in our seasonal camp set deep in the heart of Saadani National Park. Here you can enjoy complete privacy with your own team of chef, waiter and safari guide. Our seasonal camp is set on the banks of the Wami River and is a great starting point from which to take a boat safari in the early morning or late afternoon. At night, enjoy being serenaded by the sounds of the African bush.

Saadani Safari Lodge

The entire eastern boundary of the Park is set along the Indian Ocean where white beaches stretch to the horizon in both directions, and sand islands off-shore provide good snorkeling and swimming. Set on the Indian Ocean with bush behind, in the heart of the National Park at closest proximity to the most diverse range of wildlife and environments. Indigenous screw palms provide a backdrop to the main building where meals are served. There is an elevated sitting room with panoramic views over the bush and ocean, which is a perfect sundowner spot. Saadani Safari Lodge also boasts the National Park's only swimming pool.

Nine individual tented cottages set along the beach, cooled by soft ocean breezes and shaded by casherina trees. The classic bandas are light and airy with cosy day beds on the verandas for afternoon siestas or nights sleeping almost under the stars. Cottages are twin or double with swathes of sail cloth adorning the ceilings, large romantic Zanzibar style nets and locally carved furniture. Each room has an en-suite bathroom with solar-heated shower and flush lavatory, livened up by sand floors, shell mosaics and the odd fist of driftwood. You also have a full-length veranda, with unrestricted sea views. Double classic rooms have a day-bed on the veranda which can be made up if you fancy sleeping al fresco under the star-splashed skies twin rooms have a couch.

Built especially for honeymooners and romantics is the newer Siri Suite, meaning secret in Swahili. Reached by a private walkway over a dry river, the Siri suite provides the luxuries of ultimate privacy and minimal disturbance. It comes with its own swimming pool, solar powered shower and an al fresco shower, a kitchen with chef, a bar and a personal butler. A boat will collect you from your private beach to take you to the Wami river and the small coral garden at the end of the sand bank or a vehicle will wait for you at the end of the pier to take you on a private safari. Set on a sand dune, the Siri suite provides both the spectacle of the sun rising over the Indian Ocean and the contemplative sight of sunset over the African bush in perfect solitude. With awesome views of the Indian Ocean and National Park, the suite was designed with the sun in mind, tracking it as it passes through the day.

The word Maridadi means elegant in Swahili and refers to the organic design of these new suites. The collection is made up of three individual and one conjoined family suites. The five new Maridadi suites have been constructed using grass collected in the local village and give a wonderful ambiance and light to the spacious interiors. Inside, under a thick thatch roof, is a more contemporary-looking double bed of chunky dhow wood, with nets and vibrant red cushions/runner there's a desk, a sitting area and an indoor shower with solar hot water as well as an outdoor courtyard shower room. En-suite facilities are common for all with twin vanity units and private balconies to drink in the colors, textures and smells of Africa at it's best. The courtyard showers allow guests to shower in complete privacy and enjoy the stars at night.
