MOUNT KILIMANJARO - RONGAI ROUTE / ZANZIBAR ISLAND / PEMBA - 10 DAYS

Day 1: The climb begins at the village of Nale Moru (1950 mts) through cultivated land before entering the pine forest. Watch out for Kilimanjaro Colobus monkeys in the tree tops with their white fringed 'capes' and tail. Taking 3 - 4 hours the first camp is on the edge of the moorland zone where the forest begins to thin out at First Cave at 8500 ft/2600 m. Overnight 1st Cave Camp.

Day 2: The morning walk is a steady ascent up to Second Cave at 11300 ft/ 3450 m with superb views of Kibo and the eastern ice fields on the crater rim. Pushing on to reach Third Cave taking 3 to 4 hours at 12800 ft/ 3800 m for overnight camp. Dinner and overnight 3rd Cave Camp.

Day 3: Continue ascending on the east side of Kibo crossing the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo taking 4 to 5 hours to reach Kibo Hut at 15000 ft/ 4700 m. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent which begins mid-night. Dinner and rest at Kibo Camp.

Day 4: An early start for the summit on steep heavy screed to arrive at Gilman's Point at 18640 ft/ 5681 m in time to see the sun rise. Those who want to reach the highest point in Africa can take the approximately three hour excursion to Uhuru Peak 19340/ 5895 m passing close to the spectacular glaciers and ice cliffs that still occupy most of the summit area. The descent to Kibo is surprisingly fast and after some refreshment, continue the descent to reach the final campsite at Horombo at 12000 ft/ 3700 m taking 11 to 15 hours. Overnight Horombo Camp.

Day 5: A steady descent down through the moor land to Mandara Hut and then downward through the lush forest on a good path to the National Park gate at Marangu (1830 m) taking 5 to 7 hours. At Marangu gate all successful climbers to the Uhuru Peak and Gilman's Point will be provided with certificates of different notation. Hot lunch will be provided at the gate by our chief and have some celebration dancing. After lunch you will be transferred to the lodge/hotel in Arusha for hot shower, swimming and relaxation at the before dinner and overnight at the designated accommodation.

Day 6: In the morning you will meet your safari guide for briefing about the tour to Zanzibar and Pemba Islands. After breakfast at the hotel/lodge you will be transferred to Arusha airport for your flight to Zanzibar. Upon your arrival to Zanzibar you will meet our representative who will take you to a hotel/lodge in stone town which has much history. In the afternoon you will have an excursion to the narrow street of the stone town and your guide will give you the historical background. Late afternoon you will retire to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: After breakfast you will have time to explore Unguja "famous as Zanzibar" to its varieties of historical and stunning areas. These includes the Jozani forest, white sand beach holiday, all famous water sports, dhow cruising, spice tour, Swahil music famous as Taarab and much more.

Day 8: After breakfast an arrangement will be done to transfer you to the seaport for departure to Pemba Island some 50 kilometers away from Unguja. Upon arriving we will do a full excursion to spice farms, cloves and much more areas including the clear white sand beaches of Pemba. Lunch and dinner will be served at the designated hotel/lodge and thereafter retire for an overnight.

Day 9: After breakfast you will be transferred to the seaport for your boat back to Unguja. Rest and relax at the hotel or lodge before attending the evening African music and eat much fresh seafood barbeque. Dance enjoy before retire to the hotel/lodge for a sleep.

Day 10: After an early breakfast you will be transferred to the seaport to catch your express boat to Dar Es Salaam whereby you will meet our representative. Greetings and thereafter follows Dar Es Salaam excursion to the popular areas of this business center of the country. Hot lunch will be served at a designated restaurant and an afternoon rest at the hotel pool. In the evening you will have hot dinner, farewell before transferred to Dar Es Salaam International Airport for connecting with your flight back home.
