MARANGU ROUTE - CLIMBING MOUNT KILIMANJARO 5 Days / 4 Nights
Day 1: After Breakfast drive from your hotel to the Kilimanjaro National Park gate at Marangu and sign in and pay fees to the park. Meet with guides and porters and begin the trek. This will be a four hour hike through dense rainforest to the Mandara Hut (9,000 ft). Arrive late afternoon and arrangement for dinner and overnight at Maranda Hut.
Day 2: Early in the morning after the breakfast, we will hike about 8 miles to the Horombo Hut (12,000 ft). We will pass out of the rainforest and into alpine meadows with giant groundsels in the sparse moorland. Arrive at Horombo hut for dinner and overnight.
Day 3: As usual today we will hike to the Kibo Hut (15,450 ft). The terrain will gradually become more rugged and rock. We will pass by Lobelias and giant groundsels in the sparse moorland. Arrive at Kibo hut and you will have a cup of hot chocolate, coffee or tea before having a rest for the summit later after.
Day 4: Kilimanjaro summit using Marangu route starts on the midnight 12:00 a.m to Uhuru Peak (19,340ft). We start out very early in the darkness zigzagging up the rock scree to Gilman's Point and crater rim. This takes 5-6 hours. After a much needed by we walk along the crater rim to Uhuru Peak. This is the highest point in Africa. We have a short summit celebration and then we descend down to Horombo Hut, passing the Kibo hut on the way. Dinner and overnight at Horombo hut.
Day 5: Early in the morning after breakfast we will descend to the park gate and for those who made to the top will be awarded a certificate with Kilimanjaro National Park Authority for a successfully attempt to the roof top of Kilimanjaro. At the gate therefore you will met or vehicle which will return you to the hotel for hot shower, a rest and hotel lunch depending with itinerary might be in Moshi or Arusha.
In most cases this itinerary is accompanied with a safari to the Tanzania National Park such as Arusha, Tarangire, Lake Manyara, Serengeti National Parks including Ngorongoro Crater and can be extended to the Southern or Western Central of the country let alone the beach holiday of Zanzibar, Mafia and Pemba Island.
But if it’s Kilimanjaro climbing only then the safari end up there and follows with the connection of the international flight back home at the Kilimanjaro International Airport.
MARANGU ROUTE - 6 Days / 5 Nights
We always advice our clients who attempt Mount Kilimanjaro via Marangu route to spend an extra day at Horombo Hut. For them doing this allows great chance for summiting the roof top of Africa.
