Kilimanjaro final check list

Mount Kilimanjaro climbing is a breathtaking activity of one’s life time and trekking or climbing with a reputable organize is one of the successful way to the roof top of African continent.

A well defined preparation of the equipment and proper final checklist before depart is another key factor to your Kilimanjaro climbing. The below list is a directive for what you should pack for Kilimanjaro climbing, however one should put in mind the issue of weight of the luggage. One porter is supposed to carry 15 kg (30 lbs.) or less and there is a scale on each point to check the weight. Unnecessary stuff can be left at the hotel in Moshi. Most of the product listed below can be rented on your arrival and are treated in a high quality of clearness and hygienically.

Travel Documents

Important Items

Valid passport (at least six month before expiration) and visa

Airline ticket basically returns one.

International health card with immunizations (Yellow fever)

Medical insurance (mostly important)

Travel insurance (very important)

Travelers Cheques / Credit Card / VISA Card

Duffel bag – Commonly carried by porter and will include your climbing clothing and gear should be large enough to accommodate the above items. If you have lots of stuff an extra bag should be with you to leave other thing in the hotel.

Backpack this is used for your daily carrying such as water, food, raincoat, camera and simple warm clothing.

Sleeping bag - Walking stick - Water bottle / containers.

Kilimanjaro map (see our climbing maps in the website or obtain one at the gate.

   

Equipment

Personal Items

Sun hat or similar (with a brim)

Collapsible ski stick (optional but highly recommended)

Water bottles - two or three (total capacity at least 6 litres)

Head lamp, good strong one with spare

Sunglasses, good quality dark lenses for the climb, with a securing strap

Toilet kit (soap, tooth brush, toilet articles, wet wipes).

Towel

Sun screen and lip protection, Ziploc bags, to protect camera, binoculars, Flashlight (torch) etc.

Toilet paper

Money belt for passport and valuables

High Altitude Gear

Headaches--Syndols

Altitude sickness-Diamox (very important but if not allergic to sulpha)

Diarrhoea - Imodium

Nausea - Valoid

Malaria - Prophylaxis (Painkillers)

Abrasions blisters and cuts - Plaster, bandages

Antiseptic cream - Betadine

Insect repellent

Muscular sprains

Waterproof, breathable & windproof jacket (outer wear like Ventex, Gore-Tex or Jeantex)

Waterproof, breathable & windproof pants (outer wear)

Polar fleece (middle layer)

Thermal underwear (under layers)

Mittens or warm gloves

Glove liners (if necessary)

One pair thermal (polertex) socks

Balaclava - Gaiters - Thermal water flask
   

Footwear

Hiking Gear
Water resistant semi-stiff hiking boots - mid weight boots work great

Socks - several pairs for the climb

Liner socks - to keep your feet dry and limit the risk of blisters

Raincoat or Poncho

Shorts and T-shirts

Hiking pants

Regular underwear
